China Dining Chair Price & MOQ Benchmark: What 1,976 Foshan Models Actually Cost
Published by JIANGPIN · Computed from our live production catalog, 22 September 2026
In short: across 1,976 in-production dining chair models at our Foshan factory, the median FOB reference price is $84 per chair. The middle half of the catalog sits between $58 and $125; nine out of ten models are under $168. On order size, MOQ 6 pieces is the most common minimum (61% of models), and 96.8% of the catalog can be ordered at 10 pieces or fewer. Cabinet-grade bulk programmes (MOQ 50) make up 2.6% of models and are quoted on request.
1. Price distribution
| FOB reference price band | Models | Share | Typical specification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Under $30 | 37 | 1.9% | Simple metal or rubberwood frames, basic finish |
| $30 – $49 | 240 | 12.1% | Metal and mixed-material chairs, volume programmes |
| $50 – $79 | 664 | 33.6% | The core band: solid wood and upholstered everyday seating |
| $80 – $119 | 444 | 22.5% | Solid wood with better joinery, commercial-grade finish |
| $120 – $199 | 493 | 24.9% | Oak / walnut, leather or velvet, designer frames |
| $200 and above | 98 | 5.0% | Premium and bespoke pieces |
Percentiles: 10th $45 · 25th $58 · median $84 · 75th $125 · 90th $168, with a full range of $10 to $1,200. The distribution is not a bell curve — it has a dense core between $50 and $80 and a long premium tail, which is what you should expect from a factory serving both volume retail and design-led hospitality.
2. Minimum order quantity
| MOQ | Models | Share | What it suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 pieces | 208 | 10.3% | Sample and showroom orders |
| 4 pieces | 283 | 14.0% | Small boutique and home projects |
| 6 pieces | 1,235 | 60.9% | Standard commercial minimum — one table setting |
| 10 pieces | 227 | 11.2% | Small restaurant fit-outs |
| 50 pieces | 52 | 2.6% | Bulk / container programmes (quoted on request) |
85.3% of models can be ordered at 6 pieces or fewer, and 96.8% at 10 or fewer. Six is the natural minimum because it is one dining table's worth of chairs — enough to justify a production run and a carton, small enough for a buyer to test a market before committing to a container.
3. Median price by chair type
| Category | Models | Share of catalog | Median price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Solid wood dining chairs | 1,137 | 56.1% | $85 |
| Iron / metal frame chairs | 312 | 15.4% | $55 |
| Leisure chairs | 226 | 11.1% | — |
| Stainless steel chairs | 168 | 8.3% | $77 |
| Bar chairs / bar stools | 88 | 4.3% | $102 |
| Outdoor chairs | 40 | 2.0% | — |
| Commercial restaurant chairs | 39 | 1.9% | — |
Wood dominates the catalog at 56% of models, and wood-led materials (solid wood, 100% solid wood and wood-plus-upholstery) account for 1,251 models, or 61.7%. Metal frames are the value option at a $55 median; bar stools price highest at $102 because of the taller frame, footring and higher load rating.
4. What actually moves the number
- Species and material — rubberwood to ash to white oak to walnut is a step change in cost each time. See the species comparison.
- Frame construction — mortise-and-tenon with corner blocks costs more than a screwed and glued frame, and lasts proportionally longer in service.
- Upholstery — fabric, velvet and leather seats add material and labour, and commercial foam density is a real cost line.
- Finish specification — a two-component commercial coating with a stated hardness costs more than a standard lacquer, and is the difference between a chair that looks new in year three and one that does not.
- Knock-down vs assembled — KD designs cut freight per unit, which often matters more than the unit price once you calculate landed cost.
- Order quantity — published reference prices assume MOQ-level orders; container quantities typically price below the listed band.
5. How to use these numbers
Treat the table as a sanity check, not a price list. When a supplier quote lands far below the $50–$80 core band for a solid wood chair, the money has come out of somewhere: thinner stock, a softer finish, air-dried timber instead of kiln-dried, or unbranded hardware. Moisture content and hardware grade are the two cuts that never show in a photograph and always show up in year two.
Compare landed cost, not unit price. A $58 chair that ships KD at 1,200 units per 40ft container can beat a $48 chair that ships assembled at 400 units once freight and duties are in.
We publish reference prices on every product page in our dining chair catalog and quote firm prices against quantity, material and destination. Send your target quantity and market and we will return an itemised quote with carton dimensions and loading quantity.
Method and caveats
Figures were computed on 22 September 2026 from our production catalog of 2,028 active models. 1,976 models carry a published reference price; the remaining 52 are bulk-only listings quoted on request and are excluded from price statistics. Prices are FOB reference bands in USD, exclude freight, insurance and duties, and assume MOQ-level quantities. MOQ shares are computed across all 2,028 models. Catalog composition changes as models are added or retired.
